A very quick and dirty introduction to
Sensors, Microcontrollers, and Electronics

Part Four: your assignment

Now that you've got some idea of what sensors and microcontrollers are all about, it's time to start imaginging what you might do with them.

Imagine you've got a commission to make a piece using sensors and microcontrollers. It can be a performance piece, a sound scupture, a music instrument, whatever. Your assignment is to write a proposal for the piece.

Include information about your budget (look up some real prices online), a timeline, some rough ideas and sketches of the sensors you'll use (really, make some sketches: circuit diagrams, physical construction, room layout, etc.). Finally, talk about the piece itself, and why the use of sensors and electronics in the piece is interesting. What do the sensors add to the piece? Would the piece be possible, or make sense, without them? Is the piece "interactive"? Are the electronics just a gimick? Or are they a vital part of your concept?

You'll present your proposals in class next meeting.
